16 CHALLENGES IN 12 MONTHS - A FIRST IN SOUTH AFRICA

I have spent the greater part of my life entering challenge after challenge. So I decided to do something different: At least one extreme challenge per month over 12 months. I hope to motivate girls and women that anything is possible! And sponsor young women endurance development athletes while I do it.

I chose the  events/challenges  because of their mix of extreme physical tests and endurance.

I would love your support.

It is going to be tough. I will try my very best. If I fail, I will get up and try again.

My 12x12 Challenge started in January 2022,

  • Everesting Run/Walk challenge on Westcliff Steps Johannesburg. 15 January 2022.  COMPLETED!! 177 flights in 28 hours 4 minutes. No sleep. 60km and 8848m ascent.

  • Dusi River Canoe Challenge. 18-21 February 2022. COMPLETED!! Despite the canoe breaking in half on the last day. We dragged the canoe almost 30km to officially finish the Dusi.  I am thankful to Sharenet for their sponsorship.

I HAVE WRITTEN A BOOK:
'IF THE CLEAT FITS'

AND IF YOU THOUGHT IT SOUNDS RACY... IT IS!

FULL OF MY ADVENTURES ON THE RACE TO RHODES.

If the Cleat Fits tells the real-life story of my adventures while participating in Race to Rhodes, an extreme, non-stop, self-navigational, mountain bike race from Pietermaritzburg to Rhodes (Eastern Cape). A journey of 500 kms,  it takes place in mid-winter, through some of the most spectacular, mountains, forests and grasslands of South Africa, connecting with remote communities.

The escapades described in the book are based on real-life situations that occurred over two separate Races to Rhodes some years back.

As with most adventures, real and almost-real, this particular one was sparked by the pursuit of love. Were my romantic interests fulfilled? Well, you will just have to read the book to answer that question.

READERS' REVIEWS

Ingrid Avidon. If the Cleat Fits. Cover.png

Hilarious. Irreverent. Inspirational.

As rapid and raucous a read as the final downhill straight on the Race to Rhodes. Racier actually. And funnier.

I can’t get enough...And I can’t wait for the sequel!

A contemporary feminist treatise advocating fitness, health and self-belief... But just so funny.

Brave, tenacious and wickedly witty, Ingrid’s self-effacing commentary belies a fierce intellect and a deep commitment not only to extreme personal challenges, but, more significantly, to community  upliftment - through health-focused interventions.
