IRON MAN:TIME TO DIG DEEP

The Iron Man was only five days after the Race-to-Willowmore. This meant  that there was not much time to regenerate the body and mind. Iron Man encompasses three disciplines: swimming (3,8km), cycling (180km) and running (42km). Unfortunately, the swim was cancelled as the weather was bad and the sea was deemed to be unsafe. The cycling leg was hard in the rain and strong headwind; riding my modified mountain bike did not help to make it easier. The run, as anticipated and expected, was taxing. What made it manageable was the fantastic support along the 7km loop route. I found the last 20km to be really hard. I had to dig deep into my mind and draw on the energy of the supporters along the route. I finished the Iron Man in 11h40. It was great having my Mom and Zillah join me as my team of helpers.
