BE-ING INGRID

IN PURSUIT OF A ROUTE LESS BOR-ING

ABOUT ME

Home: Welcome
BE-ING ORDINARY IS NOT ON MY
'TO-DO' LIST

I was born the usual way, on a Wednesday, the youngest of four children. The year was 1970. The only thing strange about my birth was that it was in Springs, and not Bedfordview. A tough break for someone who dreaded Be-ING ordinary.  Moving to Benoni didn't help much.

As a child and young adult, I lived for ball sports, especially tennis and hockey.  But my soul became restless. I yearned for adventure. This was probably inevitable. My parents were descendants of the Voortrekkers and 1820 settlers, so the allure of hardship and suffering was bound to be embedded somewhere in my pre-frontal cortex. I just had to be me.

Naturally I vegetated to endurance sport, an activity as  inconsistent with my physiology as describing someone as pretty ugly. Unfortunately I had not chosen my parents wisely.  During my conception they certainly sounded like endurance athletes. I soon learned that they were NOT Olympic rowers or supreme aerobic athletes.

As a result, my quest to become an endurance athlete has been a journey. Unlike Spiderman I have yet to be bitten by a radioactive spider. I live in hope. In the meantime I secretly wear my son's Spiderman suit and hope ......that I don't burst out of the seams or stretch it too much.

I can only try to be me. I invite you to share my journey and many adventures. The highs and the lows. The successes and the failures. I have some crazy things planned. You are welcome to come push your boundaries and suffer with me. Or, just watch, laugh and learn as I take my middle-aged body on some bad-ass, epic adventures.

But before that, why not download my book and get a real sense of what it is like to to be me.

I HAVE WRITTEN A BOOK:
'IF THE CLEAT FITS'

I HAVE WRITTEN A BOOK

And if you thought it sounds dirty. It is. Full of dirt and dust and mud and rain.

If the Cleat Fits tells the real-life story of my crazy adventures while participating in an extreme, non-stop, self-navigational mountain bike race from Pietermaritzburg to Rhodes (Eastern Cape). Fondly known as the Race to Rhodes. A journey of 500km across some remote, but spectacular areas of South Africa.

The escapades described in the book are based on real life situations that occurred over two separate Race to Rhodes mountain biking events that I completed when I was much, much younger. As with most adventures, this particular one was sparked by the pursuit of love, literally. Were my romantic interests fulfilled? Well, you will just have to read the book to answer that question.
